Ditching the Victimhood Mentality

Surviving the trump administration, A Daily Thread. Episode 17: Ditching the Victimhood Mentality
OK, something about today feels especially dark and negatively charged. I wish I could say it was just me, but I suppose one of the silver linings these days is that whenever I’m feeling out of sorts, my first reaction is never to think that there’s something wrong with me for feeling that way. Good GOD, it’s been a long year already, and trump has been in office for LESS THAN 3 WEEKS.
I feel a little like a broken record here, but something that being a student, a teacher, a parent, and a healer have taught me is that repetition is a necessary part of the growth process. So today I’m repeating to myself: it’s completely natural to feel stuck or overwhelmed or like there’s no solution in sight. AND, we have to keep moving through that energy. Whether it’s having a good cry in the shower (that was my medicine of choice so far today), moving our bodies, meditating, taking some kind of action (multiple people in my orbit have mentioned the 5 Calls app recently, so I’ll just throw that out there), protesting, educating ourselves, or engaging in radical rest or revolutionary joy, it UP TO US to not stall out in that feeling of overwhelm.
We are not victims. YES, a lot is happening that we can’t control, but YES, we also have power over our response to the fascist takeover. We have to stay in our power, individually and collectively, to get through this.
You are strong. You are smart. You are resourceful. You are brave. So am I. And it’s up to us to keep choosing joy and action, over and over and over again. We got this.
