Nazi America

Surviving the trump administration, A Daily Thread. Episode 3: Nazi America

In case you haven’t heard, Pete Hegseth, a wife-abuser-Nazi-worshipper-Christian-nationalist-accused-rapist (whose own mother thinks is “despicable and abusive”), has been sworn in as our new Secretary of Defense.

This comes just days after our oligarch overlord elon (who - for the 18 days leading up to the election, held $1 million-a-day giveaways for trump voters in swing states) threw the heil hitler gesture at trump’s inauguration ceremony.

Now, if you’ve been thinking “What happened to America? When did it get so bad??” … the painful answer is: IT’S ALWAYS BEEN THIS WAY.

When our Founding Fathers rolled up on our shores, they gleefully stole this land from the Native people who lived here - subsequently decimating their population via battle, disease, and mass killing of the buffalo, one of their main sources of food.

Next, they marched the Native people onto designated land areas totaling 2.3% of the total US land (“you get to live HERE now; we’ll take the rest!”) while also rounding up their children and forcing them into boarding schools to try to “civilize” them.

Meanwhile, they imported thousands of African people to work for free to make this country (minus the enslaved African people actually doing the labor) one of the most prosperous in the world.

After the Civil War, slavery migrated to the prisons with convict leasing programs, along with segregation and discrimination enforced by Jim Crow laws.

In the 1930’s, Nazi lawyers studied the United States Jim Crow laws, as well as our laws prohibiting interracial marriage and anti-immigration laws. They used this research as a model for their Nuremberg Laws, which kicked off the Holocaust.

So if you’re wondering: “what would I have done if I had been in Nazi Germany,” the answer is - you’re doing it right now. We all are, and we have been. This isn’t new. And now that we’re aware, it’s up to us to fight back.
